Philadelphia Flyers at Boston Bruins

The Bruins scored a season-high with five goals in the last game against the Flyers and look to move over the .500 mark on the season beating them again in Boston.

The Flyers are at 3-2 on the young season and they have lost two of their last three games. To say they have been up and down lately would be an understatement, as in the two losses in their last three games they gave up 11 goals and in the won win they had a shutout.

The Bruins moved to 2-2 with a win over Philly in their last game and they had only scored four goals in their first three games before a 5-4 shootout win in their last game. The team is 13-5 in their last 18 home games against the Flyers and this will be their second home game of the season.

Not Good Late Defense

In the 5-4 loss to the Bruins on the road in the last game in a shootout the Flyers failed to play good D in the third period where they gave up four goals. James van Riemsdyk scored twice in the loss and had the game-tying goal late in the third period and Claude Giroux and Travis Sanheim also found the back of the net for the Flyers. The Bruins outshot the Flyers 43-26 and Boston was 2-5 on the power play while stopping two of the three Boston power plays.

Corey Hart (2-1-1 3.67 GAA) gave up four goals on 43 shots in the loss to Boston and in his previous game took a loss giving up four goals on only 22 shots before being pulled. Brian Elliot (1-0-0 1.30 GAA) may get the call in this game and he is coming off a stellar last start where he stopped all 40 shots he faced in a 3-0 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

Keven Hayes leads the Flyers with seven points (2 goals 5 assists) and he had two assists in the loss to the Bruins in the last game. Travis Konecny and James van Riemsdyk have combined for seven goals on the season and xv had gone without a point in two straight before lighting the lamp tiwce in the last game.

Finally Some Offense

The Bruins had only scored four goals in their first three games and were coming off being shut out before scoring four goal and winning in a shootout against the Flyers in the last game. Jack Studnicka, Charlie Coyle,Nick Ritchie, and Brandon Cole all scored in the win over Philly. The Blues not only came back for the win but also played killer D in the OT to send the game to a shootout.

Tuukka Rask (2-1-1 2.23 GAA) gave up four goals on 26 shots in the win over the Flyers and in his previous two starts had only given up three goals. Backup G Jaroslav Halak (0-0-1 1.85 GAA) only gave up two goals on 31 shots in his lone start but got little help from the offense in a 2-1 OT loss to the New Jersey Devils.

After four games Nick Ritchie is 4he only player for the Bruins with more than one goal (2 goals) and Brad Marchand leads the team with four points with a goal and three assists.

He Bruins have won 48 of their last 60 games following a win.

The Bottom Line
What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

I think the Bruins have good value at home in this game against a very inconsistent Flyers team that lost 5-4 in the last game while winning in a shutout in their previous game. The Flyers have played well against the Bruins at home in the last few seasons but have lost 13 of their last 18 games facing them in Boston. The last game was a high scoring one that went to a shootout but in this game I look for more of a defensive battle. The Bruins will have the better D in this game, which is why they are the pick.

Prediction:
Bruins -155

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

The total for the first game between these rivals went Over but I am leaning towards the Under in this game. I think Boston will clamp down on the Flyers at home and keep their attack in check. On the other side of the coin do not look for Boston to score many goals, as they have not scored more than four all season. The last game was the first in five meetings between these teams that the total did not go Under. However, the Under is the pick in this East Division game, as do not expect much in the way of offensive fireworks.

Prediction:
Under 5.5 goals
