The Islanders once again won at home and beat the Devils with a 5-3 victory. The Islanders have looked like the best team in the East Division this season and have beaten the Devils in 3 of the 4 games they have played this season. The Devils have two games not to try to win this series against the Islanders and with back-to-back games, the hope is to at least win one game.

Devils are struggling defensively

The Devils had a terrible first game of this series where they allowed 5 goals and were constantly allowing the Islanders to find the back of the net. The Devils have lost 7 of their last 8 games and their defense has been a mess, allowing 3.2 goals per game. Players like PK Subban and Ty Smith have underachieved on the defensive side but the goaltending duo of Mackenzie Blackwood and Scott Wedgewood has also struggled with both goalies allowing almost 3 goals per game if not more.

In addition to the struggling defense, the offense has played poorly this season with nobody scoring more than 10 goals this season. Miles Wood has 8 goals this season with Jack Hughes and Pavel Zacha having 6 goals each this season but the rest of the roster has struggled and the offense lacks depth and even a potent top line.

Islanders win eighth straight game

The Islanders won once again and the offense piled on the goals in the game. The Islanders might look like the best team in the East Division but will have to replace Anders Lee who went down to injury in the recent game and was the team-leading goal scorer with 12 goals. On an offense that scores 3 goals a game, the Islanders will look for Mat Barzal and Jean-Gabriel Pageau to step up as the two have scored 9 goals each on the season and lead their lines offensively.

While the offense is going to have to make adjustments, the defense looks to be the same dominant force it has been all season. Adam Pelech and Ryan Pulock have been incredible as the top pairing, combining for 4.3 defensive point shares while Noah Dobson and Andy Greene have 3.6 combined defensive point shares. In addition, Semyon Varlamov, who got the last night off, has been great in goal, allowing only 2 goals per game.

The Bottom Line
What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

The Islanders will struggle to replace the scoring presence of Anders Lee and the offense will drop off a bit. However, the Islanders should be able to find scoring in the second and third lines with Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Brock Nelson finding the back of the net as well as the top line still showing its firepower. The Islanders should also have a bounceback game defensively with the defense playing better and Semyon Varlamov getting the nod as the starter in goal. The Islanders should be able to continue their winning ways and handle the Devils in this game.

Prediction:
Islanders -165

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

The offenses in the first game took off, with the Islanders finding the back of the net five times and the Devils finding the back of the net three times. The expectation is for a lower-scoring game with Anders Lee out of the lineup but the offenses should still be clicking in this game. The Islanders should take advantage of the Devils struggling defense and find plenty of scoring chances with their later lines. Likewise, the Devils should be able to find a few chances in this game on odd-man rushes to allow Jack Hughes to take advantage of his speed. The total should once again go Over with both offenses continuing to paly well.

Prediction:
Over 5.5
