The Boston Celtics host the Washington Wizards on Sunday night at 7 pm EST at TD Garden Arena in Boston, Massachusetts. The Celtics are favored by 5.5-points while the total stands at 231.5-points.

The Wizards were able to continue rolling at home versus the Minnesota Timberwolves Saturday night as they used a strong 3rd-period to blow the game open en route to a double-digit win. Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook spear-headed the offense yet again with Westbrook posting a triple-double, his 4th in 6 games. On the other hand, Beal post 30+ for the 3rd time in 4 outings as the Wizards were able to pick up their 7th victory in 8 games. The Wizards are also red-hot against the spread at this point racking up a 7-1 record in their last 8, overall.

The Celtics were able to get a much-needed win Friday night at home versus the Indiana Pacers to end a 3-game losing skid as their defense returned to form to allow just 39% shooting to the Pacers. And while Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown had an off-night, Kemba Walker was able to carry the team offensively with 32 points while accounting for almost half of the team’s 9 3-pointers. And while the win temporarily stopped the bleeding, the Celtics remain in the basement of the Atlantic standings tied with the New York Knicks. Boston was able to cover for the 1st time in 4 games versus the Pacers as 2.5-point favorites.

Each of these teams have picked up outright wins in 5 of their last 10 meetings, however, it has been the Wizards that has been the dominant team as of late winning 3 of 4, overall. It should be mentioned that despite this, Boston has won 3 of 4 SU at home versus their conference foe. And while Washington is 3-1 ATS in their last 4 meetings, the Celtics are 3-1-1 against the number in their last 5 at TD Garden Arena.

Wizards winning ways continue

Washington was able to pick up their 12th win of the year as they were able to get huge performances from their starters as well as from their bench versus the Timberwolves. The team shot 47% on the night while connecting on a total of 13 3-pointers, 8 by Garrison Mathews along with reserve Davis Bertrans who ended the game with an impressive 15 and 19 points, respectively. Important to add that Bertrans returned to the lineup after missing Washington’s prior game with knee soreness.

However, the most impressive performances of the night came from Westbrook, who ended with 19 points, 14 rebounds, along with 11 dimes, along with Beal, who posted 34 points, 8 rebounds, along with 6 assists on 11-18 shooting (4-9 3FG). Important to note that the duo combined for 8 of the team’s 16 turnovers while also committing 9 of the Wizards 16 turnovers in their matchup versus the Celtics earlier this month. And while Westbrook struggled in this contest ending just 6-19 FG while scoring 13 points, 9 rebounds, along with 11 dimes, Beal was the man yet again with 35 points on 10-18 shooting.

In all, the Wizards are in a great spot at this point as their offense continues to click on all cylinders while the defense is only allowing 113 points during their current winning stretch, almost 8 points below their yearly average. Furthermore, Washington has held the Celtics under 100 points in 3 of their last 4 meetings.

Celtics finally end skid with win over Pacers

Leading scorer Tatum scored just 22 points in his last 2 starts for the Celtics while Brown has also slowed down a bit on the offensive end in his last 2 outings posting only an average of 16 points while committing 6 turnovers. However, Walker has lifted himself out a slump during this time averaging 26 points per game, including posting 32 versus Indiana. The guard was essential in preventing the Celtics from falling behind early in the contest as he was heavily involved in an late 1st quarter run that allowed the Celtics to battle back from a 14-point deficit.

“I know guys look to me in situations like that, and you know, just try to stay upbeat, just try to stay positive, and just bring that energy to the team, Walker told ESPN.com.” Walker has posted 20 or more in 3 of his last 4 starts; Yet, the guard is currently making just 39% of his shots from the floor (35% from long-range).

In fact, Walker was one of the 2 bright spots for Boston in their last outing versus the Wizards on the road earlier this month scoring 25 points on a 50% shooting night while accounting for 4 of the team’s 9 treys in a 13-point loss. Brown also posted 25 points on 11-21 shooting while Tatum struggled going just 3-14 FG for 6 points as the Celtics shot 36% as a team.

Important to add that the Celtics picked up a 9-point home win just a month earlier versus the Wizards as the Walker-less Celtics got 32 and 27 points from Tatum and Brown as they combined for half of Boston’s 12 3-pointers. Brown also posted a double-double with 13 rebounds.

The Bottom Line
What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet

The Celtics have covered the spread in 4 of their last 6 games at TD Garden Arena; However, it is a fact that they continue to play on the shaky side on both ends of the floor as of late.  The Wizards have done well for themselves ATS versus their Eastern Conference foe in recent matchups winning in 3 of their last 4, overall.  Furthermore, Washington just happens to be the team with the hottest hand at the moment, leading me to take the road team and the plus points, despite the Wizards closing in on a 2nd of a back-to-back.

Washington Wizards +5.5

Full-Game Total Pick

While the over is 3-1 in the last 4 for the Wizards along with 5-1 in the last 6, overall, for Boston, I like the under for this contest as the under has been the play in 4-straight amongst these 2 squads, overall, including 3 of their last 4 at TD Garden Arena.
