The San Antonio Spurs will travel to the Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Monday night to take on the Indiana Pacers in an interconference matchup. This will be the second and final matchup these teams will play against one another as the Pacers won 139-133 on the road back on April 3. The Spurs are 10th in the Western Conference with a 27-28 record. They are coming off a road win against the Phoenix Suns 111-85 on Saturday. The Pacers are ninth in the Eastern Conference and have a 26-29 record. They will be on the second half of a back-to-back after playing in Atlanta on Sunday against the Pacers.

These two teams are very similar statistically on both sides of the floor so it will be interesting to see which team can go on a run. Let’s take a deeper dive into the matchup to decide where we should be placing our wagers. PUBLISHED BEFORE LAST NIGHT’s GAME

If I Shoot It, It Goes In

The San Antonio Spurs have been relying on small forward DeMar DeRozan to carry the offensive load this season. He is averaging 21.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 7.2 assists, 0.3 blocks, and 0.9 steals in 34 minutes on the court. He is shooting the ball at a good clip as he is 49.5 percent from the floor, 28.1 percent from three-point range, and 88 percent from the charity stripe. In his last game against the Trail Blazers, DeRozan played 37 minutes and finished with 26 points, four rebounds, 10 assists, a steal, and a steal. If he can figure out a way to have a similar game, they will be in a great spot.

The San Antonio Spurs have been a below-average defense to begin the year as they are giving up just 111.4 points per game, which is 13th in the league. In their last game against the Phoenix Suns, they allowed 85 points on 36-of-90 (40 percent) from the floor, 6-of-27 (22.2 percent) from beyond the arc, and 16 free-throw attempts. If they can figure out how to defend similarly to this again, it will do wonders for the team.

Guard Up

The Indiana Pacers have been dependent on point guard Malcolm Brogdon to carry the offensive load this season. He is averaging 21.2 points, five rebounds, 5.9 assists, and a steal in 35.1 minutes on the court. He is shooting the ball well as he is 45.6 percent from the floor, 39.8 percent from deep, and 85.5 percent from the charity stripe. In his last game against the Jazz, Brogdon played 36 minutes and finished with 16 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Brogdon needs to perform a little better in order to do well here.

The Indiana Pacers have been below-average on the defensive side of the ball to begin the year as they are giving up 114.2 points per game, which is 22nd in the league. In their last game against the Utah Jazz, they allowed 119 points on 42-of-87 (48.3 percent) from the floor, 16-of-42 (38.1 percent) from beyond the arc, and 24 free-throw attempts. If they can figure out how to limit the amount of open three-point shots, they will be in a better spot here.
