Orlando Magic vs Milwaukee Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks will travel to the Amway Center on Monday evening for an Eastern Conference showdown against the Orlando Magic.

Both teams enter with identical 6-4 overall records but got there in very different fashions. Orlando won four in a row to start the season and six of its first eight games while the Bucks got off to a slow 2-3 start before winning four of their last five. The Magic enter this matchup riding a two-game slide.

Can Orlando pull off an upset at home against the Bucks on Monday night?

Bucks beat Cavs without Antetokounmpo

Milwaukee is fresh off a 100-90 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers without star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, who sat with back spasms. Khris Middleton finished with a team-high 27 points and six assists while Bobby Portis added 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Bucks, who led by as many as 17 points on the night.Antetokounmpo suffered a fall in Friday’s loss against the Jazz. Although he was able to return for the second half, the Bucks’ staff erred on the side of caution when keeping him out in the second half of a back-to-back set against Cleveland on Saturday. The reigning NBA MVP and Defensive Player of the Year said he felt “good after Friday night’s game, so it seems likely that he returns for Monday’s matchup with the Magic. Antetokounmpo is averaging 27.1 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game so far this season.

As great as Antetokounmpo has been, Middleton actually leads the team in Estimated Plus-Minus with a +4.9 mark, which ranks seventh in the entire league. According to dunksandthrees.com, the Bucks sport the NBA’s best adjusted net rating (+8.2) and own the league’s most efficient offense through their first 10 games. Milwaukee has posted an NBA-best adjusted offensive rating of 119.7 so far this season, which is a whopping 3.7 points higher than the second-best team (Indiana). The Bucks haven’t been as stingy defensively though, ranking 18th in the NBA with an adjusted defensive rating of 111.5.

Magic drop second in a row without Fultz

Orlando pushed its current losing streak to two games on Saturday night with a 112-98 loss on the road against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks. Nikola Vucevic had 30 points and 15 boards while Aaron Gordon added 16 points for the Magic, who have struggled since losing starting point guard Markelle Fultz to a season-ending knee injury.

First-round pick Cole Anthony has been thrust into a starting role in Fultz’s absence but has struggled in his first two career starts. Anthony finished with just eight points and a -8 plus-minus rating against the Mavericks. He had 15 points in Friday’s 42-point loss to the Houston Rockets but was -27 in 28 minutes of action and had more turnovers (four) than assists (three) on the night. While Anthony has impressed with his poise and effort, he’s struggled to adjust to the NBA and has been one of the least efficient shooters in the league so far this year. Through 10 games, the No. 15-overall pick has shot a dismal 31.6 percent from the field and 17.2 percent from the 3-point line. The Magic will hope to get starting shooting guard Evan Fournier back on Monday. He has been out for the past five games with back spasms.

Orlando comes into Monday’s matchup ranked 26th in the league in adjusted net rating with a -3.7 mark. The Magic have an adjusting offensive rating of 108.1 (22nd in the NBA) and an adjusted defensive rating of 111.8 (20th in the NBA)
