The Golden State Warriors will play their 2nd-straight road game when they take on the Los Angeles Lakers Monday night at 10 pm EST from Staples Center. Currently, the Lakers are favored by 9-points while the total stands at 223.5-points, down from 224.5 at the opening.

After a successful 7-game home-stand, the Warriors fell on the road versus the Denver Nuggets as the home team sprinted out to a 13-point lead after the 1st-period and never looked back as Golden State allowed them to shoot 46% on the night while giving up 27 free-throws. Steph Curry continues his hot-shooting finishing with 35 points and 11 rebounds on an efficient night (14-23 FG) while being responsible for 5 of the team’s 11 treys in the contest. Nonetheless, the Warriors failed to cover for the 2nd-straight game, this time as 4.5-point favorites, bringing their record to 2-3 ATS in their last 5 games, overall.

The Lakers won their 5th-straight game after taking out the New Orleans Pelicans at home Friday night as they were able to rally from an early 8-point deficit to outscore the road team 24 points, total, in the final 3 quarters en route to the victory. The offense was less than stellar in shooting 42% on the night, yet Lebron James led with 21 points, 8 boards, along with 11 assists while Anthony Davis, despite shooting 5-16 from the floor, posted 17 points, 6 boards, and 5 assists. Los Angeles was victorious against the spread in 4-straight games while covering as 8.5-point favorites versus the Pelicans.

The Lakers have won 3-straight out-right versus the Warriors; However, Golden State has picked up wins in 3 of their last 4 road games versus Los Angeles. And while the Lakers have accumulated a record of 6-4 ATS in the last 10 versus their Western Conference foe, Golden State has done well for themselves at Staples Center covering the number in 2 of their last 3, overall.

Warriors continue to struggle with consistency

Despite Curry (28 ppg, 6 rebs, 6 ass) shooting 45% from the field along with 38% from deep in 2020, the Warriors continue to find consistency within their offensive scheme as they have averaged a tad less than 100 points during their current 2-game losing skid. And while they shot much better as a team versus a Nuggets team that has also struggled on the defensive end, the Warriors, who are ranked 28th in the league in rebounds allowed, were outrebounded for the 2nd-straight game by a 50-43 margin while surrendering 10 offensive boards in the process. Furthermore, 19 turnovers (7 by Curry) by Golden State certainly did not help their cause as they fell for the 4th time in 7 road games in 2020.

Kelly Oubre, Jr. (11 ppg, 6 rebs) continues to be up and down as he is connecting on 35% of his shots along with a dismal 19% from 3-point range as he ended with 14 points versus Denver on 3-10 FG along with 3-8 3FG. On the other hand, Andrew Wiggins (18 ppg, 5 rebs, 2 blks) along with center James Wiseman (11 ppg, 6 rebs, 2 blks) posted 16 and 18 points, repectively, as they continue to shine alongside Curry. In fact, Wiggins is hitting 37% of his shots from deep while Wiseman is currently at 40% in this area.

In all, if the Warriors can somehow get a bit better on the offensive end while getting more consistent production from Oubre, Jr., they may be able to make this season very interesting; However, despite Curry, Wiggins, Oubre, Jr., Wiseman, along with Draymond Green each pulling down at least 5 rebounds per game, Golden State has been hampered by their inability to effectively rebound the ball on offense (2nd chance points) while keeping teams off the glass on the defensive end. Important to note that the Lakers are ranked 3rd in the league in rebounding (49/game) along with being 5th in giving up 41 boards per outing.

Lakers seek to continue rolling versus Warriors

The Lakers continue to rank in the top-10 in all major offensive and defensive categories in 2020. And while they gave up 48% shooting to the Pelicans in their last outing, they held them to only 95 points as they extinguished the road team’s early success in the opening quarter to allow just 67 points in the final 3 periods. Furthermore, in typical Pelicans fashion, they allowed the Lakers’ aggressiveness on the defensive to bait them into committing 20 turnovers during this contest, 4 each by leading scorer Brandon Ingram (20 points) along with Zion Williamson (21 points, 12 rebounds). Important to note that during their 5-game win streak, Los Angeles has allowed only 98 points per game.

On the other hand, the offense for the Lakers continue to be very efficient as the squad is currently hitting 49% of their shots in 2020 along with just under 40% from long-range. And while James and company are posting 115 points per game thus far, this average has increased by 4-points during their win streak with James leading the way in what has been an efficient campaign. Of course, Davis is also a huge threat in the paint as well as from deep (37% from long-range), it has been contributions from guards Dennis Schroder (14 ppg, 4 rebs) along with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (11 ppg) that has also propelled the team to an 11-3 record.

To add to this, the Lakers also have a talented collection of reserves that they can rely on to provide a scoring punch in Kyle Kuzma (11 ppg, 5 rebs) and Montrezl Harrell (14 ppg, 7 rebs), who finished with 11 and 16 points versus the Pelicans, with Kuzma recording a double-double while going 3-4 from deep (40% 3FG in 2020).

The Bottom Line
What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet

While the Warriors continue to make strides to gain more consistency, the fact is that the Lakers are not only the much better team at this point in the year and have been red-hot against the number as of late.  Curry has done his best to keep this team competitive, however, despite his ability to score the ball, the Lakers are solid on the defensive end in addition to having one of the most potent inside-outside combinations in the league in Davis and James.  Expect the Lakers to lock down the perimeter throughout this contest to cruise to their 5th-straight victory Monday (5th-straight against the spread as well).

Los Angeles Lakers -9

With the way the Lakers have played defense as of late in addition to how the Warriors have been up and down offensively, the under will certainly be the big play in this instance as it has been in 4 of the last 5 meetings amongst these 2 squads.  Los Angeles has held opponents to 102 points or less during their 4-game win streak while Golden State has also done well for themselves during this time in giving up an average of just under 110 points per game to opponents.  In all, with each of these veteran teams having a couple days off, expect them to take some time to get back in the swing of things, particularly on the offensive end.
