Two Western Conference teams will face off against each other on Sunday as the Dallas Mavericks travel to the Moda Center to take on the Portland Trail Blazers. Dallas enters this game with a 21-19 record after losing to Portland on the road by six points in its last game while Portland enters this game with a 25-16 record after beating Dallas at home by six points in its last game. This game will start at 10:00 P.M. EST.
Dallas Looks To Get Over .500 On The Road
The Dallas Mavericks have continued to look like a mediocre basketball team in the Western Conference as they have split their last six games. To make matters worse, Dallas enters this game on a low note after losing to Portland on the road by six points in its last game. In that game, Dallas’ defense was awful as it allowed 125 points while letting the opposition shoot 46.8% from the three-point line. However, that underwhelming performance was somewhat expected considering the fact that the Mavericks have a 10-10 record on the road. Now, Dallas will be looking to get over .500 on the road with another matchup against Portland up next.
Leading the Mavericks offensively is point guard Luka Doncic who is averaging a team-high 28.8 points per game along with a team-high 8.4 rebounds per game. In addition, he is averaging a team-high 9.3 assists per game as he has been extremely unselfish with the basketball up to this point.

Following the loss to Portland, Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle discussed how his team can get forward Kristaps Porzingis some better looks offensively.
“He’s going to see a switching defense a lot of nights. In those situations, he’s got to move and react, and we’ve got to find him in situations where he can be effective. He got off to a slow start and we just got to involve him a little more.”
Portland Looks To Extend Its Winning Streak
The Portland Trail Blazers enter this game in great form as they are in the middle of a three-game winning streak including a six-point victory against the Dallas Mavericks at home in their last game. In that game, Portland’s offense was great as it scored 125 points while only committing six turnovers. However, that stellar performance was not too surprising since the Trail Blazers have won 14 of their first 21 home games this season. Now, Portland will be looking to extend its winning streak with another home game up next on Sunday.
Leading the Trail Blazers offensively is point guard Damian Lillard who is averaging a team-high 30.6 points per game along with a team-high 7.7 assists per game. However, he is also averaging a team-high 3.4 turnovers per game as he has struggled with his ball security all season long.

Following the victory against Dallas, Portland coach Terry Stotts discussed how pleased he was by CJ McCollum’s performance.
“We kind of had him on a minutes restriction, otherwise who knows what he could have done. He had a good rhythm. I don’t anticipate a minutes restriction going forward. Seven of 13 from three, which is what he was doing before he got hurt. It was good to see for him and for us.”
- Trail Blazers are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following an ATS win.
These trends are from Covers.com
- Mavericks are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600.
The Bottom Line
What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Portland has looked like the much better basketball team all season long so this spread is a bit too low. The Trail Blazers have the better overall record and they are finally getting close to full strength after dealing with injuries for the majority of the season so I expect them to continue playing well on Sunday. Plus, Portland ranks sixth in adjusted offensive efficiency while Dallas ranks tenth in adjusted offensive efficiency so I expect the Mavericks to struggle scoring enough points in order to cover this spread. As a result, there is some value with the home team.

Full-Game Total Pick
Both of these teams have been amazing offensively this season so this total should be a bit higher. Portland ranks sixth in adjusted offensive efficiency while Dallas ranks tenth in adjusted offensive efficiency so this game should feature a ton of quality looks for both teams. Plus, each of the first two meetings this season totaled at least 239 points so both teams have been useless defensively against each other which makes me believe that this game will end somewhere in the realm of 130-120. As a result, there is a lot of value with the over in this spot.
Over The Posted Total
Half-Time Side Pick
Portland enters this game in solid form and it is starting to get healthy while Dallas has split its last six games so I expect the Mavericks to struggle a bit early on in this game. Portland has the better offense in this matchup and Dallas’ offense has scored less than 106 points in two of its last three games so I expect it to struggle keeping up with Portland’s elite offense. Plus, Portland ranks tied for 14th in offensive rebounding rate while Dallas ranks 26th in offensive rebounding rate so I expect the Trail Blazers to generate enough second chance points in order to cover this spread.
