The Orlando Magic and the Charlotte Hornets will take the floor in game-2 of their 2-game set at Amway Arena in Orlando, Florida, Monday night at 7 pm EST. Currently, the Hornets are favored by a point while the total stands at 214-points in the contest.

The Hornets were able to halt a 4-game losing streak in picking up a 3-point win in game-1 of this series Sunday night as Charlotte was able to rally from a 13-point deficit in the beginning of the 3rd-quarter to outscore the Magic 32-18 in the final period to take the 3-point win. The Hornets, despite giving up 17 treys in the contest, were able to shoot 48% as a team while also nailing 14 3-pointers in addition to getting 38 points from Gordon Hayward as he accounted for 5 of the team’s shots from the arc on the night en route to the victory. The Hornets were able to cover as 2-point favorites in the contest as the Hornets are 3-1 ATS in their last 4 outings.

With the loss, the Magic have dropped 8 of their last 9 games as they shot solid at 45% from the floor as a team along with connecting on 17 3-pointers; Yet, they were unable to prevent the Hornets from scoring at will in addition to committing 15 turnovers, 7 by Nikola Vucevic along with Evan Fournier. Orlando has also been horrible against the number in recent matchups in going just 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games, overall.

With the win, the Hornets were able to halt a 4-game win streak for the Magic, winning 4 of their last 5 games at Amway Arena. And while the Hornets have covered in 4 of the last 6 versus the Magic, Orlando went to .500 against the number in their win Sunday night in going 3-3 in their last 6 on their home court.

Hornets on a high after huge rally to end losing skid

Thanks to Hayward (23 ppg, 5 rebs) leading a late rally, the Hornets were able to get back on the winning side of things with their 3-point win over the Magic Sunday night. And on a night where guard Terry Rozier (19 ppg, 4 rebs) struggled in going just 2-10 FG along with 1-6 from long-range, the Hornets were able to get huge performances from Devonte’ Graham (13 ppg), who finished with 25 points and 6 dimes, along with reserves LaMelo Ball (12 ppg, 6 rebs, 6 ass) and Miles Bridges (9 ppg, 5 rebs), who combined to go 12-22 from the field along with combining for 4 of the teams 4 treys, who contributed 30 points in the team victory.

Hayward has posted 30+ points in each of his last 2 outings while averaging 34 points in 3 games since returning from injury while Graham, despite shooting under 40% from both the field as well as from long-range this year, has increased his offensive production to 17 points per game in his last 6 games. On the other hand, Rozier recorded one of his least productive outings of the year in posting just 7 points; However, the guard posted 20+ point games in 3 of 5 games prior to his matchup with the Magic Sunday, and should certainly bounce back in this contest as well.

Magic fails to pick up 2nd-straight

Again, Orlando has struggled as of late. And while they were able to pick up a rare win over the struggling Minnesota Timberwolves last Thursday, their 1st win in 7 games at the time, they were not able to keep the momentum going despite having 2 20+ points scorers in Vucevic (23 ppg, 11 rebs) along with Fournier (18 ppg) in their matchup versus Charlotte. However, the team had to endure the absence of forward Aaron Gordon (15 ppg, 7 rebs) being out of the lineup due to injury on this night as his presence was missed on both ends of the floor.

Gordon had racked up 17 points per game, 8 blocks along with a total of 35 rebounds in the last 4 games for the Magic; However, due to a him injury, was unable to suit up in this contest. And while Cole Anthony (10 ppg, 5 rebs) stepped up to post 14 points while Gary Clark, who has had his struggles on the offensive end this year in averaging just 3 points per game, finished with 14 points while nailing 4 treys, this would not be enough for Orlando to pull out the victory. Gordon remains questionable for this contest as well as one can certainly conclude that his absence will play a roll in how this game plays out in the end.

The Bottom Line
What to bet on this game.

Rating:

With Gordon still likely on the mend due to a knee injury, I will side with the Hornets to pull out another big victory in this contest Monday night.  And while Hayward was the hero in last night’s matchup, one has to expect that Rozier will bounce back from a less than stellar performance in the opener of this 2-game set to provide even more of a lift to a Charlotte team that has struggled and will certainly take a win in any form at this point.  In all, look for the Hornets to grind out another win in this contest as the Magic is yet to prove that they can hunker down consistently on the defensive end of the floor.

Prediction:
Charlotte Hornets -1

Again, this is a 2nd of a back to back for both teams as Hayward along with Rozier playing close to 40 minutes in their Sunday night matchup.  In addition to this, Fournier along with Vucevic logged in an average of 34 of 48 minutes in this contest, which means that the under will certainly be a big play in this meeting.  Besides, the under has been the result in 3 of the last 5 at Amway Arena amongst these 2 teams, which makes me lean towards the under Monday night.

Under 214
