Boston Celtics vs Memphis Grizzlies

The Boston Celtics travel to take on the Memphis Grizzlies in Monday’s NBA action. The Celtics returned to .500 on Sunday with a big win to snap a three-game losing streak, and are now seventh in the Eastern Conference with a record of 21-21. The Grizzlies are right in the thick of things at 19-20 overall, and after a big win against Golden State on Sunday, are looking to build momentum and make a push with their core of young players. With similar records and current situations, that makes this matchup an important one in Memphis on Monday.

Celtics snap losing streak in a big way against Orlando

After getting hot right before the All-Star break, Boston struggled mightily out of the gate in the second half of the season, losing four out of five and also have rumors circulate around the national media that head coach Brad Stephens may be on his way out the door for the Indiana University opening. Stephens, a native of Indiana, squashed let the rumors fester for a week and it took a toll on his team. After finally ousting them this past weekend, Boston came out against the Magic and finally put together a statement win.

The Celtics are capable of playing every game like Sunday’s on any given night against any given team, but they are one of the most frustrating teams in the NBA because of their inconsistency. No one really knows which Boston team will come out of the locker room, which makes them a true enigma through 42 games. They have the talent advantage in the matchup as they do against just about anyone, but they must shoot the ball well and defend Ja Morant in order to secure a victory against an up-and-coming Grizzlies team on Monday night.

Grizzlies have fallen late in numerous games this season but are maturing quickly

Memphis’ young core led by point guard Ja Morant is one of the most intriguing to watch, as they are extremely talented and getting good, but they are still just one step away from becoming a contender. Memphis has lost more one-possession games than just about anyone this season, and have taken their lumps throughout a frustrating first half. That being said, it is all part of the coming of age process in the league, and they are just a game and a half outside of the playoff picture.

In order for the Grizzlies to get rolling, they’ll need to get big wins against teams like Boston, who as mentioned before, can be one of the best or worst teams you’ll ever see depending on the game. They must shut down Boston’s star wing duo of Brown and Tatum, and force Kemba Walker off his game, as they are successful only when they shoot the ball at a high percentage from outside. Defending shots will be the key for them if they are to win, as they have the advantage with a slasher and shot creator like Morant if the game gets muddy.

Rating:

I’ll just be honest, this is an extremely tough and dangerous game to mess with as a bettor. This game could go so many different directions as both of these teams are among the league’s most inconsistent, but I’m going with my gut and picking the Celtics because they won big against Orlando Sunday, and are just one of those drastic hot and cold teams, who look to be on their way back up after a big win to snap a three-game skid.

Prediction:
Celtics +2.5

Rating:

We’ve got two very good offensive teams here, with loads of scoring talent on both sides. The Celtics have been awful this season against scoring guards so Morant could have a big night, and also look for Jayson Tatum to have a good game as he will have a mismatch against anyone guarding him. The line in this one is much safer than the spread. Overall the way.
