We have a non-conference NBA action to consider for Saturday when the 1-0 Atlanta Hawks meet the 0-1 Memphis Grizzlies. The Hawks opened its season with a 124-104 road win over the Chicago Bulls and Memphis lost its home opener to San Antonio by a score of 131-119.
Hawks Blow Out Chicago
Atlanta began its season in the right way by taking out the Chicago Bulls at the United Center by a score of 124-104. Guard Trae Young led the way with 37 points on 10-12 shooting from the field while dishing a team-high seven dimes with six caroms. Cam Reddish and Bogdan Bogdanovich each chipped in with 15 points to lead the Hawks over the Bulls.
Everything centers around Young and he certainly delivered the goods against the Bulls. Atlanta shot 53.8 percent from the field, 40 percent from downtown, and 82.8 percent from the charity stripe. Atlanta also played with a pace of 106.5 pace and if they continue to shoot the ball like this and play at this fast tempo, the Hawks are going to be dangerous.
Memphis Routed by San Antonio
The Memphis Grizzlies opened its season by hosting the San Antonio Spurs and the injury-riddled Grizzlies were blown out at home by a score of 131-119. Guard Ja Morant scored 42 points on 18-27 shooting with a team-leading nine assists and center Jonas Valanciunas added 13 points with a team-high 15 boards.
Morant is the engine for the injured Grizzlies who shot the ball decently against the Spurs, knocking down 51.6 percent of its field goal attempts while shooting 37 percent from downtown and a chilly 61 percent from the charity stripe.
